We took note of Parkside Auto Repair on the corner of Fourth Avenue and Third Street when it went on the market for an asking price of $3.75 million and again when it sold in August. Ever since, we’ve been wondering what would be going into this space in front of a Staples and within throwing distance of Hotel Le Bleu and the Novo Park Slope and The Crest condos. An early weird rumor making the local rounds was that it would be a Barnes & Noble, which made little sense given that the retailer is closing stores. The real answer is (drum roll): who knows. A new sign is up on the property and the new owners are marketing it as 20,000 square feet of retail space, plus parking, and offering to build to suit.

maybe a better site for Whole Foods?
WF’s current site is only 10,000 sq.ft retail (though their building is designed woth 72,000 sq.ft.). So it seems they could do better on 4th Ave, and maybe even come up with a designe that also has a green roof.
What do you say about that WF’s Corp?

and what’s up with the large retail space across the street from this in the novo?
seems like the for lease banners came down with the scaffolding.

Barnes and Nobles has a store not 5 blocks from there. I doubt its a B&N unless they are considering closing the store on 5th and 7th. Probably more McCondos.

Does anyone know where Parkside Auto moved to? Frank, the owner, said he wanted to remain in the Slope, or nearby, and would send e-mails when he relocated. I have not been able to find him in Brooklyn. Does anyone know if he abandoned the idea of relocating? Frank was the best mechanic in the neighborhood and I hate to lose him.
