We’re always interested in complaints about and tales of construction work going on at all hours. So it is with 602 Manhattan Avenue in Greepoint. We got this short email from a reader:
On this property at 602 Manhattan Avenue, Greenpoint work goes on until 10:30 PM , as well as Saturdays. There are no permits for these extended hours. The building department has received complaints, and yet nothing is done. Signed, A bothered resident.
We checked and there have been four complaints called in to the Department of Buildings.
So, there are complaints about 602 Manhattan Ave., but the interesting thing is that a Stop Work Order was issued on the building on March 27 because there were no approved plans at the work site. The complaints were made on April 10, 26 and 29, which either means that (a). the Stop Work Order was lifted but not noted in the system or (b). the work is also going in violation of the order. The complaints themselves are classics. Let’s take April 10, which is the most colorful of the bunch: “CALLER STATES THAT BUILDING IS SHAKING. BUILDING IS ALSO TILTING.” The inspector’s report: “NO SHAKING OR VIBRATING OF PREMISES @TIME OF INSPECTION.” The building will be four stories and have seven apartments.
