Heat Wave Fun: Renderings of McCarren Pool…with Water

August 1st, 2006 · 5 Comments

Heat does weird things to people, especially when we have to worry about whether or not Con Ed is up to the task. In our case, it causes flights of fancy about what McCarren Pool would be like with water. Given that we never saw it as a real pool, we’re a little fascinated by the concept. So, today, we offer a few pictures we doctored up that add fake water to some real picture of the pool.

I want to go swimming, but I will settle for looking at your “pool” and sit in my air conditioned apartment wondering when the blackout of 2006 is going to occur, probably when I am in the elevator.

I love the photo. All my mother talks about is the memories of swimming in that damn pool when she was little, Polish immigrant and HOT!! She had her first fling there as a teenager with a “dark skinned boy” and never forgot it…in a good way.
Greenpoint is a really special place. I grew up there and now I live in WOODSTOCK, NY of all places. I long for the “realness” of those who were born and bred there. It is different than being an adult and moving in…not bad, just different…especially if you you had no money like everyone else and had a job on the avenue and went to the Meserole to keep cool or George’s or Cheap Charlies or Goodwins or A and P…or even down the subway platform until you got too scared and it became too quiet for your own good.
    Gotta love Greenpoint.
Thanks for bringing me down Memory Lane. xox
