An interesting development to report from Sheepshead Bay, where the venerable (if recently bedraggled) Lundy’s shut down at the beginning of the year. Kinetic Carnival‘s O. Robau left this information as a comment on an older post, but it’s interesting enough to pass along on its own. All credit to Mr. Robau for the intel:
Yesterday I was informed, from a source close to the landlord of Lundy’s that Outback Steakhouse has officially been in the process of taking over Lundy’s Restaurant and will turn it into an Outback. So far, a few calls to Lentek Realty and the landlord have yielded no calls.
Outback has long been reported as a possibility for the space. A little sad to see such an important Sheepshead Bay landmark be replaced by a chain restaurant.

A phone conversation with Lundy’s landlord, Steve Pappas, yielded the most accurate information about the status of the Lundy’s space.
As it stands there are TWO SEPARATE LEASES for the location. The lease for the one HALF of the space are drawn up and ready to be signed by OSI Restaurant Partners for their Outback Steakhouse. The lease for the other half of Lundy’s will go to smaller private owner. Pappas did not elaborate on whether that half will be for a restaurant or not. The only issues Pappas had with Outback Steakhouse is that he preferred to have the WHOLE space leased instead of dividing it in half. But he said he has to move fast, regardless. So, the leases are ready to go and should be signed next week.
Only if the other half is also going to be an eatery will the possibility of a Lundy’s still exist . Otherwise, that was it for Lundy’s the Restaurant.
