Thor Spokesperson Says Developer Needs "Defending"

If you want to check out an interestiing online discussion, head over to the Coney Island Message Board and start reading “The Enemy is Amongst Us.” It’s about Thor Equities reading and monitoring posts on the Board. Most interestingly, it contains a comment from Lee Silberstein of the Marino Organization, which is Thor’s PR firm. Here it is:

The truth is, we regularly monitor this and many other web sites and message boards.

In terms of “defending Thor,” it is needed. Thor is the largest private-sector investor and property owner in Coney Island, and is committed to ensuring that in the future — as in the past — Coney Island becomes a destination worthy of the residents who live and work there every day.

While there are some interesting posts on this site, most are emotion-fueled and factless. The internet is an extraordinarily valuable tool in that it allows all voices to be heard. The downside is that there is little ability to check for facts.

So for the past several months, much of what has been said here is simply not true. Answering each of the allegations, accusations, rumors and speculative assertions would take a team of people devoted to nothing but this.

Thanks for all of your input.

We’ll keep watching and learning.

Lee Silberstein

Not that anyone asked us, but given how the information food chain works these days and given that items on the Message Board are picked up by blogs and that some of them end up in the print media in one way, shape or form, it might seem to make sense to answer or correct some of the more alarming “allegation, accusations, rumors and speculative assertions.” We think.

    Hello Everyone

I am a local resident of Coney Island district and I am eager to see CI to rebuild for better, safer and bigger entertainment establishment. Coney Island is jewel of south Brooklyn with beautiful ocean view. Coney Island needs a great entertainment centers like live music and plays with five star hotels and restaurants. 365 days of live attraction and entertainment.

I disagree that it would be in their best interests to try to correct any mis-statements or mis-assumptions on a partisan blog because the posts on such forums often (regrettably, almost always?) devolve to the lowest form of name-calling and accusation all too rapidly. I actually think it’s rather bold that this rep even made the statement he did on the blog in question… and let’s just follow along there to read the inevitable invective as it starts flying at him personally.

If they wanted to get their message out to the citizens of Coney Island, this would be a great way of doing so. I have asked specific questions like why do they need outside income from amusement rides to help pay for amusement rides, and how come they erected plywood fences in front of chainlink fences. They gave a answer that other amusement parks take public funding and never answered the plywood fencing question either. They are a PR firm defending someone whose actions takes lots of defending.

Coney Island is a unique place in the city of New York, it isnt or shouldnt try to act like any other place in the city. People who think so, are just wrong.

Joe Sitt is already showing his true colors by raising the rent on Astroland 13 fold to 3 million dollars. Sitt wants to turn coney island into a mall. What a terrible mistake it would be to let that happen.
