Ultimatum to Thor from Astroland Owner?

Astroland Protest One

Kinetic Carnival is reporting that Astroland’s Carol Albert, who sold her amusement park to developer Joe Sitt last year for $30 million, is giving Thor Equities two weeks to renew her lease for the 2008 season. Kinetic writes that Ms. Albert has apparently “reached a limit to her patience” and that if a new lease is not forthcoming by mid-September she will be putting the Astroland rides “up for sale for good.” More details at Kinetic Carnival.

It’s strange to me that the woman who sold her land to a developer is now the one we are rooting for to keep things going? Makes little sense.

it’s not strange. Thor is strange. They can’t build anything for another year at least, yet they’re in a rush to add to their collection of bulldozed empty lots and boarded up buildings. Their intent is to blight the area to pressure the city to rezone for timeshares and 30 story highrises in the amusement zone. And to put the remaining amusement operators out of business so Thor can own it all. The Thor pr guy’s assurances that if Astroland closes some amusements will be on the site in 2008 and beyond is laughable Why should we believe them when they replaced the batting cages/bumper boats/go karts with an empty lot? Their idea of putting in amusements is a silly and overpriced inflatable slide with a $25 lawn chair rental and a few day’s visit from a circus.
