GL Construction Site Du Jour: The Curious Case of the Kent Ave. Concrete Plant

Kent Concrete Construction Site Du Jour

Here we are again at the old concrete plant across the street from 184 Kent Avenue in Williamsburg to which we return again and again. Not because we want to, but because it’s one of the oddest demolition sites we’ve seen in all of Brooklyn, although it may not be the most dramatic. The official addresses of the site are 157 and 173 Kent Avenue and 224 Wythe Avenue. The entire demolition on the site, which has included knocking down a building and removing a ton of equipment, has happened with only a partial fence. The site has even been used for photo and video shoots during the demolition process. About 2/3 of the block is owned by the Chetrit Group. GL assumes this is all wholeheartedly endorsed by the Department of Buildings. It has to be, as it’s been going on since last winter. We can hardly contain our excitement at the prospect of actual construction here.
