The flyer pictured here is currently up all over the place in Williamsburg between Metropolitan Avenue and S. 4th Street and Havemeyer Street and Marcy Avenue. It asks for people with video or photos of a beating alleged to have been committed by undercover officers and suggests that it is part of a pattern. It says that on September 25 “a young man was severely and brutally beaten by six thugs” near S. 2nd Street, that he was seriously injured and that the beating was so bad that a “pool of blood” was left on the street. We must have seen two or three dozen of the fliers up all over the neighborhood.

So, the “victim” wants to throw around acusations of police brutality with out stating his name.

South Side kids have been beating off-duty cops into comas for years. I know this for a fact. There is nothing here about WHY they beat the kid.

maybe the flier is badly written or i’m not good at reading between the lines – but if the cops were in plain-clothes, how do they know they’re cops. Particularly since the flier goes on to state that they were able to get the name or badge #’s of these guys.

Being a longtime resident of the southside of Williamsburg it dosen’t suprise me that this incident took place, but lets not crucify all of the men, and women of the NYPD. Let justice be served to those resposible.

The victim isn’t just “throwing” accusations without stating his name. The flyer is letting the public know how we in the southside are treated. It is also asking for witnesses to come forward. How do people know that these thugs are cops? Because this man was handcuffed before he was beaten. This is a common act around the neighborhood. AT THE PRECINCT, when the mother requested the names and badge numbers of these thugs, her request was denied. These thugs are always in the neighborhood trying to make a collar. Anyone who goes into or comes out of this block is usually stopped by these thugs, they are handcuffed, and searched. Not everybody that goes in or comes out of this neighborhood is a user or a dealer. We are humiliated when our children, husbands, wives, friends and neighbors see us in handcuffs. In retaliation for contacting the Internal Affairs Bureau, 2 days later, another group of plain-clothes ran up to the building next door to where the victim lives, running past a group of 16-20 year olds sitting on the stoop having a good time, just ‘chilling’. The plain-clothes cops emerged from the building with three young men who were under arrest. One of the cops did a double-take when he saw the victim’s youngest brother (who is a spitting image of his older brother) on the stoop with the rest of the group sitting outside. The cop asked him if he (the younger brother) had been arrested a few days before. The younger brother informed him that it was his brother who had been arrested. The cop asked him “The one that put up the fight”? To which the younger brother said “No, the one that you all beat up!” The next thing this cop did was tell the younger brother to turn around, and he was handcuffed. When the mother who was present, asked why he was being arrested, the cop informed her that there had been an on-going investigation and they just wanted to take him to the precinct and ask him some questions. They instructed the mother to go to the precinct in about an hour. When the mother goes to the precinct, one of the arresting ‘officers’ informs the mother that her youngest son was under arrest for possession of a controlled substance and for sale of a controlled substance. Both are felonies in the third degree. The younger brother was helping his mom put up the fliers, and both had taken a break, returning to the block for a bit of rest. What is the younger brother guilty of? Of being related to the victim.
I’ve been in this neighborhood for 39 years, I have yet to see or hear about “South Side kids beating off-duty cops into comas for years”.
The thugs state that the victim suffered only minor injuries and that paramedics were called and treated the victim in a holding cell. THIS IS NOT TRUE! When paramedics showed up, the victim was bleeding so bad, the ambulance drove the victim to the hospital, where stitches were taken on the inside and outside of his mouth. He even has a chipped tooth.
