We’ve watched a lot of things come down along Beard Street in Red Hook over the last couple of years. Yesterday, work crews were tearing out the cobblestones so that it can be paved for Ikea. Curiously, the trucks loaded with removed paving stones were being driven into the Ikea site. Given that Ikea finished filling in the historic Graving Dock for parking months ago, it’s unclear whether they’re being used somewhere on the site or dumped into the water.

They are probably just leaving the stones behind the fences until it can be hauled off. OR stolen, like their giant pile of rubble several months ago. Now, that incident is worthy of conspiracy theories.

Not much conspiracy to the missing dirt pile, they dumped it the water. Some locals watched it happen and took pics.

They shouldn’t be allowed to tear up the cobblestones.
Even worse, they’ll probably install a bunch in their store to show us their “sensitivity” to the neighborhood.

Any of the community gardens in the area would be happy to have them. Dumping them would be an outrageous waste.
