There will not be a full Prospect Park in Lights holiday display this year. While there will be holiday lighting at Grand Army Plaza, the LED display that lit up all the park entrances last year won’t be going up. We checked on them yesterday and were told that an announcement about Grand Army Plaza will be forthcoming from the Mayor’s office, and that a lighting ceremony is scheduled for December 3. Color us very disappointed about the display being scaled back, apparently for budgetary reasons. (Last year’s display was sponsored by the Daily News.) It’s disappointing to learn there won’t be holiday lights at all the park entrances again this year.

That sucks. The new nights really got a lot of people’s attention when they first went up. It’s a bit crappy that they are being taken away without fanfare. Too late now (the suckiest part) but I bet the civic councils and chambers in the surrounding neighborhoods would have helped out.

That is very disappointing. Those of us from the “south side” really appreciated the light and colors on those long, dark, winter days. And there were events scheduled around the entrances. Gonna be drab without them.
ANy reasons given why they wussed out this year? They made such a big deal last year about the new LED lights being long-lasting and energy-efficient.

Argh! What message does this send to everyone in the neighborhoods around the other park entrances? ‘Sorry, but you just don’t matter anymore’? That’s kind of a slap in the face to everyone in South Slope, Windsor Terrace, Crown Heights, Prospect Lefferts, etc. (Even when they did put up lights last year, the non-GAP entrances got lower-quality displays.)

Looks like they installed the same cone shaped tree as last year under the arch in Grand Army Plaza.
