Yesterday, we posted about a some alternate side of the street parking ticket writing insanity in Park Slope, wherein (at least) an entire block of park cars was ticketed for following a practice that is pretty much followed by everyone. (Namely, double parking one’s car on the other side of the street during alternate side street cleaning times.) We didn’t know the street at the time, but it turns out the Great Ticket Writing Orgy of November ’07 took place on Eighth Street between Sixth and Seventh Avenues. $115 per hit. Ouch.

The best way to not get a ticket is to not double-park. The second best way is to get rid of your car and live car-free. Cars are anti-urban.

Gotta agree with Mike, especially as to car owners who live a block or two from the “F” train.

If there was a post about getting hit over the head with a heavy object, some wingnut would write in saying “serves you right for having a head.”

double parking sucks, as does complaining as if it’s an entitlement. i’m glad there’s a crack down.

I can report the Double Parking ticket blitz took place this past Monday on the UWS. Uncool to tolerate a practice for years (that has no safety or environmental repercussions, as does circling) then all of a sudden hit people with $115 tickets. I of course always leave a number should the blocked person need to exit.

Yesterday (12/22) we double-parked our (NJ) car behind a slew of other double-parked vehicles in front of Starbucks on Bway and 95th St. My husband and daughter got out to get coffee and I climbed from the backseat into the front seat to sit in the driver’s seat. Just as I was settling to the driver’s seat, a couple of traffic cops came over and said to me, “Don’t move your car, you’re getting a ticket.” I think it’s just ridiculous that if a person is sitting in the car and is willing to move it, they give you a $115 ticket anyway. Bway was wide open. There were no traffic problems. They were just being obnoxious. Stay away from the Upper West Side if you value civilized treatment from city government.
