Right after Christmas, we noticed that one of our favorite 99 center stores on Fifth Avenue in Park Slope started putting huge sale signs in the window. We thought they might be going out of business, but the signs didn’t say anything about it closing. Now, they do. This store is next to a Washington Mutual branch and down the block from a building we like to call the No Baby Gap Building (the new building on the left in the photo below), after some graffiti that graced its construction fence. It is on a block that is rapidly changing. It’s a fairly large space and there is now a “for rent” sign up as well, so it will be interesting to see what business takes this space. Safe to say it won’t be a 99 cent store.

I live up 13th from the 515 5th building. My friends and I have a bet which useless store will go in there. By far the guesses are a bank, because there are five or six within sight of that store front, or a cellphone store -because apparently a neighborhood cannot have less than 2 or 3 per block. 515 is supposed to be a “green” building, lets see if they rent to someone useful, or useless.

Most likely useless. My neighborhood is full of useless stores, i actually have to travel all the way up to that area to buy household stuff at affordable prices. and i live in carroll gardens! Where will I shop now? I guess Fulton St. which is my other shopping area and they want to change that too. it’s sad to see all the neighborhoods changing without taking into account the normal average working people who don’t own and would never even dream of attempting to live in one of the new buildings. An old story, i know, i am not against change but when is anything going to change for the better? Not just for the rich?
feeling like the weather I guess, blah.
