Yesterday, there was much conversation on the Park Slope Parents list about whether there’s a Park Slope in Boston. We posted something, as did OTBKB and Curbed. Among the questions we asked was whether there was a Park Slope in Seattle, Atlanta, Denver and other cities. Today’s question on the Park Slope list: “Is There a Park Slope in Denver?” Here’s the question:
A friend is wondering if there is a Park Slope in Denver? Realizing of course that the housing and transportation will be totally different, but curious about the arty, progressive, kid-friendly vibe.
The first response is that the Park Slope of Denver is actually Boulder. Our questions for today is: What’s the Park Slope of Baltimore? What is the Park Slope of Providence? And, of course, what is the Park Slope of Wilmington? Also, what is the Park Slope of Wisconsin? Ah, we know. Madison!

I’m from Denver and currently living in Park Slope. There is no Park Slope Denver. There is, however, a recently gentrified neighborhood called “Park Hill” that is also quickly becoming home to hundreds of affluent white people. Although Park Hill is within a short driving distance to shopping centers, it is a quiet residential area with large lots and hardly and businesses or people on the streets. I’m pretty sure most of the streets in Park Hill don’t even have a sidewalk. It is absolutely nothing like Park Slope.
Wikipedia has a page on Denver neighborhoods at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Neighborhoods_in_Denver

Anyone have thoughts on a neighborhood resembling Park Slope in San Diego or the San Diego vicinity?

Heather,
I am from Denver as well; I live in Dumbo, so I am not a Slope authority. I actually think the Washington Park area may be more Park Slope like; closer to downtown, more retail restaurants etc. I know Park Hill; my pre-gentrification Grandmother still lives there!

Former Denver resident, current Park Slope resident here.
There is NO Park Slope in Denver. Sure, one could make analogies between Brooklyn and Denver (Capitol Hill=Williamsburg, Washington Park=Park Slope, etc.), but as far as actual similarities, there are few.
Personally, I hated Denver and was glad to get out of there. I love Park Slope because it’s pretty much exactly what I always wanted, and which Denver never provided.
There is no pedestrian friendly neighborhood in Denver. It’s not a pedestrian city. That is enough for me.
