budget-cuts-small.jpgThere’s another press conference coming today to call on Mayor Bloomberg to avoid projected cuts of $539 million in the education budget. The budget is probably coming on Thursday, so this morning City Council Member Bill de Blasio (who is running for Brooklyn Borough President) along with Council Member Robert Jackson and other elected officials, UFT President Randi Weingarten, and a host of others will be having a press conference at 11AM at City Hall. Per an email:

De Blasio and Jackson have introduced a resolution (Res No. 1302), with 45 co-sponsors, formally calling on Mayor Bloomberg to submit an Executive Budget that restores the education cuts. The resolution was presented last month at a City Hall rally of over 10,000 parents, teachers and community members. In addition, over 60 PTAs and SLTs have passed resolutions opposing the cuts that will be delivered to the Mayor.

Mr. de Blasio has been agitating against the proposed cuts for some time.
