Our post yesterday about Myrtle the Turtle, the poor creature in Williamsburg that lives near the 5 Roebling development site that was painted, possibly by workers at the condo property. There are a lot of strong reactions to this act of animal cruelty. Here are a few of them:
1) “That is absolutely horrid.”
2) “that is fucked up…we live in a world of sociopaths…disgusting”
3) “Sure the perpetrators should go to jail, or fined, or punished in someway(as it is truly cruel and inhumane), but why is everyone ignoring that the people leaving the turtle up to its own survival in an urban setting next to an excavation site, that has tons of “issues with run-of-the-mill building-related and human torment issues” is somewhat neglectful of them?”
4) “have you guys ever had a box turtle? the paint probably won’t hurt it. it sucks that it happened of course, but Myrtle is in no immediate danger. those turtles (terrapins actually) live forever, unless, you know, they wander out onto the street.”
5) “to everyone stating that this turtle was left to care for itself, i live next door and this is a case of asshole construction workers trespassing on the adjacent property and defacing the animal. and no painting initials on a dogs fur is not the same thing. it’s called fur and it grows back.”

Wow. I love animals (in a totally reasonable way), but I can’t really see myself getting all worked up over this. Turtle shells have no pours, no nerve endings, and turtles themselves certainly have no sense of style. If they did, they would have evolved so that their heads look less like weird uncircumcised penis’.
No harm, no foul.

well julian… it is obvious that you arent a fan of the penis.
And by the way, do your research before you put down turtles – they do have nerve endings, their shells will bleed when chipped or cracked, their shell absorbs vitamin D which a turtle cannot function without – especially after it’s painted. And NO MATTER how pretty an animal looks, it doesnt make it WORTH less than another animal. You’re probably the ugly one who needs paint to cover your ugly ass face
