If you’ve ever wanted to camp out an Ikea store before it opens, your chance is coming next month. The Ikea Red Hook opens on June 18, and Racked and Amy’s New York Notebook lead us to their webpage about the big camp out opportunity:
Customers can begin lining up at IKEA Brooklyn at 9:00 AM on Monday morning, June 16, 2008 – in advance of our June 18, 2008 opening. We are going to be doing something special for everyone on opening morning so you do not have to be the first, second, or third customer in line* in order to share in the fun. Keep checking for updates!
Hey, two nights of sleeping under the stars in beautiful Red Hook. It doesn’t get any better than that. Details here.

May the remaining feral dogs of Red Hook eat their eager faces off. They have the same shit in Jersey for less- why would anyone camp out for a free tote bag or water bottle?
Camp at your own risk shoppers, Red Hook is still very sensitive about this.

For those who peruses this website, should be of the mind to have some sense of community and good will towards your fellow Brooklynites. Or should at least.
This being said – protesters of the Viking Super Store certainly will be present, for sure. All others… may the taunting, at the least, ensue.
May it also be said, nay requested… nay warned – get your Red Hook touring out of the way before going to Ikea. Wandering about the Hook with the giant brightly colored Ikea bags will certainly lead to much social discomfort.
It’s a wonderful neighborhood, and it invites people to explore. But for God’s sake – leave Ikea where Ikea is stationed!
