While not all tales of local crime are worth noting, some definitely are, either because of the way they are recounted, or because of the details. This one just posted on the Prospect Heights Forum over a Brooklynian is one of the ones worth recounting:
Three girls tried to mug me just after 1 am on Eastern Pkwy between Washington and Underhill. I wouldn’t give them my stuff so they proceeded to hit me pretty hard and then they knocked me over. Fortunately, the cops drove by at that moment and they caught them. Apparently of the five or so people they mugged this evening, I’m the only one willing to press charges. Ridiculous…I’m okay – just bruised and shaken with a fat lip and a sore jaw. But I’m really pissed off.
There should be an interesting discussion thread developing on this one.

It sounds like there is more and more of this kind of behavior going on lately. I’m sick of this kind of crap. More people need to press charges when stuff like this happens.

Happened to me in Carroll Gardens last winter at 9pm on a Friday about a 100 feet from Court Street. A mob of about 13 teenage girls, one punched me in the face while the another tried to grab my bag, I started fighting back and they threw me on a car and started to beat me up until they got the bag, then they ran. I drove around with the cops and looked at some books in the station, but we never found them.

The same thing happened to a friend of mine in that same neighborhood – a few years ago. Three girls tried to take her stuff and stabbed her. She fended them off and ran to a nearby bar (adrenaline had kicked in) where they called for an ambulence. She’s ok nowadays (after surgery and a nasty, nasty scar) but it could have been murder. They never caught the girls. Play it safe – know when to give up your ‘stuff’ for your life.

“play it safe” means to protect yourself, even if our facist government has made it illegal.
