Brooklyn Nibbles: Slope’s Chocolate Girl Has a Seizure?

June 16th, 2008 · 3 Comments

Chocolate Girl

Is Chocolate Girl, the South Slope chocolate and candy shop on Seventh Avenue, done? Well, generally a seizure notice on the front door is not a good sign. A post on Brooklynian says: “There’s a sign on the door saying something about it being seized by Marshals….. can’t remember exactly. Sad, but not surprising given the high prices and limited opening hours. Maybe Big Nose Full Body can open an even bigger wine bar now???”

I love Gowanus Lounge, but I’m so disappointed with the title of this post.

I guess not enough South Slopers needed their chocolate confections to be kosher. I don’t like seeing South Slope businesses fail, but I never quite got who they thought the target market was. You can’t micro-target at this end of the Slope. Businesses that succeed usually know how to serve three or four different segments.

The chocolate girl could have done better but the prices were outrageous and the chocolate wasn’t very good. I’m sure being closed on Saturdays didn’t help either. Whats the deal with stores between 10th and 12th? Counting the pending closure of Tea Lounge, there have been 4 closings this year alone (Red Hot, Cafe eleven, Choc Girl, TL). Something is not right….
