“For the past several months there has been a loud, annoying beeping noise on 16th street, between 7th and 8th. It sounds like a little ping, is high pitched and happens at 1 minute intervals. (I timed it!) I have walked outside and I know it is not a smoke detector battery or some sort; you can hear it for half of the block. We do have two new big condo buildings on this block, could it be coming from there?”–Brooklynian

Here’s another noise that I call the “squelch of death.” It happens in PLG around Rutland and Flatbush.
It sounds like a giant metal door squeaking. It happens every few minutes. It’s bone-curdling. I have tried for months to find its source. No luck.
Anyone have any ideas?

I wish I knew the answer too. Have the same thing happening here in my apt in LA. Every minute, 24 hours a day, a single chirp or beep or whatever it is.
It’s not too loud, so I manage to fall asleep, but it can be extremely annoying when trying to read or do anything quietly.
If anyone knows what this is please help!
