The tour of the Quaker Cemetery in Prospect Park that was widely noted online drew a big crowd yesterday. “I cycle over in the sticky heat to one of the rare tours of Prospect Park’s Quaker Cemetery, and by the time I get there, there’s a 40-minute estimated wait on line.”–A Year in the Park

Despite the wait and the rain, this was a terrific event, yet another example of the diversity of Brooklyn, right in our midst (in addition to being an opportunity to learn some history).
Several members of the Meeting (some alone, some in family groups) performed their own monologues, in costume, each based upon the life of the interee whose burial place they stood near. Spoiler alert: The final speaker was a living sixty-ish member who stood at her own burial plot when she spoke.
This was in celebration of the Meeting’s anniversary and there was no indication they’d be doing it again.
