Gowanus Lounge: Serving Brooklyn

Bklink: Satmar Feud

July 14th, 2008 · 4 Comments

link-asterisk.jpgThe bitter feud between the two brothers fighting for spiritual control of Brooklyn’s Satmar community has spilled into the corridors of City Hall. Their battle centers on the fiscal-year 2009 budget. Through City Council Speaker Christine Quinn’s discretionary fund, Brooklyn Councilmen David Yassky, Simcha Felder and Bill de Blasio dished out an unusually large sum to a new social-services group affiliated with Rabbi Aaron Teitelbaum, whose congregation is based in Rockland County’s Kiryas Joel community. Meanwhile, a rival organization tied to Rabbi Zalman Teitelbaum in Williamsburg saw its funds slashed amid citywide budget cuts. Supporters of Zalman Teitelbaum are enraged that the United Jewish Organization of Williamsburg received $150,000 less this year from the council – though it still managed to secure a hefty sum of $210,000 – as United Jewish Community Advocacy Relations and Enrichment (UJCARE), a six-month-old group affiliated with Aaron Teitelbaum, received $205,000.–NYP

simcha is a war lord wit using public money for his poltics

Can anyone explain why Simcha Felder mingles in Williamsburg politics? Last I checked he is supposed to represent Borough Park / Flatbush, right? Who care about an inner fight between 2 brothers in Satmer? No wonder no one in his district can identify a single program that he brought to his community.

David Yaski is representing the Williamsburg neighborhood, Bill Deblasio is running for Borough President, I can understand them, but for the life of mine, why is Simcha Felder totally neglecting his own constituency, and poking his nose in irrelevant issues?

As far as I am concerned, Simcha Felder instigated riots a few years ago on 16th Avenue. Has not done a thing to improve the terrible housing crisis in his own neighborhood, he did not do a thing to provide vouchers for parochial schooling, or about the avalanche of ticketing in our neighborhood.

The stuff Simcha Felder is concerned with is Pigeons. Voted to increase Housing Taxes 6 years ago which we are still paying, voted for Congestion pricing. This is an outrage, while there are so many pressing issues in our community. Many mom and pop shops in Borough Park and Flatbush may point to the Humongous Dahill Development Project that will bring in several Super Mega Department Stores that will eliminate the local stores and destroy the livelihoods of so many families. And to top it off with a hi-rise building that will import all kind of hooligans and destroy our neighborhoods.

It is ironic that some of the developers of the Humongous Dahill Development Project are from Williamsburg too, interesting

Kiryas Joel is in Orange County, not Rockland.
