On Monday, we noted some events commemorating the Battle of Brooklyn at Green-Wood Cemetery. Today, we’ll note, per an email we got from the folks at the Old Stone House, that they have a full schedule of events. For instance, on Saturday (8/16) there will be a Battle Days Opening Reception at the Old Stone House, which is located in JJ Byrne Park at Fifth Avenue and Third Street in Park Slope. It starts at Noon and American & British Reenactors will be on hand to discuss the Battle of Brooklyn. On Friday, August 22, there will be a Battle of Brooklyn Neighborhood Walking Tour starting at the Grand Army Plaza Arch at 6PM. It will end at the Old Stone House at 8PM. The cost is $12 and $10 for Old Stone House members. The full schedule is over at the Old Stone House website.

Gowanus Dredgers
On Thursday evening August 21 at 6:00 PM at 2nd Street and the Gowanus Canal
the Dredgers provide free canoeing on the canal. I will give a talk on the Revolution. The canal is important because of what occurred to the retreating colonial army.
At the Union Street bridge at the site of the Freekes Mill and important battle happened. Many Colonials drowned while trying to cross the Gowanus . These colonials held off the advance of the 20,000 British Troops and permitted Washington to retreat across East River and on to New Jersey with troops. This action permitted Washington to eventualy save the country
