Brookbit: Carroll Gardens Salmonella

September 11th, 2008 · 3 Comments

Here’s an unpleasant tidbit that landed in our inbox via our very reliable Carroll Gardens Correspondent. It’s sort of unsettling. All our correspondent, who is normally quite effusive, said is this: “My neighbor got salmonella from some eggs bought from the Carroll Gardens farmers market.”–GL Inbox

Not to claim user error, but in defense of the farmer’s market eggs, I believe one can only get salmonella through eating eggs that aren’t fully cooked.

Of course, a little salmonella goes a long way. A little bit of raw egg splattered up while beating them in a bowl could have gotten into another dish, but generally speaking it’s my understanding that enough heat kills the little stomach monsters.

I was talking to a friend who happened to be eating at Frankie’s about ten days ago, and she told me her fiance got salmonella.
