The John Jay kids are a terror; we avoid 7th Ave. during after-school hours. Last time we tried to shop around 3, my daughter emerged from the fish store at 3rd St. and 7th Aves. into a melee, girls shrieking and rolling in the street, pummelling each other, pulling out hair extensions, and screeching curses like hookers tumbling out of a paddywagon, while their buddies looked on in delight and captured the whole scene on cell phones. The police arrived with a weary air, as if this were a regular occurrence. On ‘good’ days the kids merely curse and push folks off the sidewalks.
