No, the borough’s not for sale (well, except to certain developers), but there are hundreds of locally owned and operated business that provide just about any and every kind of service and product you can think to want or need. The BEDC, the Brooklyn Chamber, and the Brooklyn Borough President’s Office are currently designing a borough-wide buy-local campaign to encourage people do their holiday shopping in Brooklyn. This being said, they’re looking for professional photographers to (voluntarily) submit images for the posters and postcards promoting Buy Brooklyn.
Here’s the info we got:
“We are looking to feature interior photographs of Brooklyn businesses in several categories: a.) Restaurants (pizza, coffee shop, sit-down); b.) Services (hair salon/nail salon/barber shop); c.) Retail (clothes & shoes, gifts, toys, boutiques); d.) Entertainment (bars, music venues); and e.) Arts & Culture (museums, gardens, festivals). We are looking for a variety of businesses that is representative of small businesses throughout Brooklyn. If you would like to nominate any of these institutions to be photographed for our campaign, please send me their name, address, type of business, and a brief description by Monday, November 3rd. Please note that the photographs are not meant to directly promote a particular business–they will instead present a general image to promote the positive qualities of Buying in Brooklyn.”
The due date is Monday (11/3). If you’re interested, contact Matthew Rao (the Director of Commercial Revitalization for BEDC) with the name, address, type of business, and brief description… and of course, your contact information. He’ll make sure the info gets to the powers that be.
