The new Beacons Closet at the corner of Warren Street, at 92 Fifth Avenue, is almost ready. Work is almost done in the interior and, yesterday, the awning was going up outside. The old location is already closed. Any day now.

Has anyone ever sold clothes to Beacon’s Closet?
Are they fair? Is it consignment or straight purchase?

I have. They purchase clothes from you. You get a percentage of the price they intend to sell everything for.
In my experience, they tend to take trendy crap (forever21, h&m) over nicer things (like jcrew cashmere sweaters with tags).

They pay you a higher percentage if you take it in store credit instead of cash.
I agree that they tend to take trendy stuff over quality stuff, although I must say the Wmsbg store is WAY worse on this count. Also, they only take seasonal stuff (this may change with the larger store).
Whatever they won’t buy that you don’t want to schlep home they donate to a women’s shelter.

They are great! They take things based on condition, season and demand. So if you have a sweater you don’t like, sell it now and not after the winter passes.
And they pay you a percentage of the final sale price but you get more in store credit than you do in cash. Which is very fair and the way old record stores worked.
Call it “trendy crap” but they have taste. And they also take great vintage stuff.
Don’t expect to get rich, but do expect to get a fair price for things that are just gathering dust in your closet.
