As we’ve noted, DOT has been going hog wild in Gowanus, Boerum Hill and Park Slope repaving local streets. Of course, nicely paved streets are a good thing. What’s bad about is the process. The photographer who took this photo labeled it “things that are bad for you.” The photo itself is titled “Too Early.” Cranky dude? Well, last week, he wrote about DOT employees being out on 10th Street in Park Slope using bullhorns at 6AM telling people to move their cars. We know they start de-paving streets between 7AM and 7:30AM, using a machine that makes everything in one’s home vibrate. Also, we know they can start re-paving as early as 5:45AM. Five fucking forty five in the morning. Uh huh. The price of nice, smooth streets, we suppose.

As a resident of 10th Streeet, I don’t understand why the block was being paved. It was perfectly fine and paving it appeared to be a last minute effort to use some money at the DOT. What a waste.

Agree. I observed multiple blocks in the slope being repaved by large crews. Had to ask myself if this money could be better spent on other projects…or saved.
And those bullhorn announcements: from a few blocks away, it’s easy to think that we were in the midst of some police action when awoken by them.

i agree with alice; i’d rather they spent the money on keeping our buses running on the weekend.

I’m not going to complain about freshly paved streets, who knows when they will have the funds to do it again.
FYI- Megunski, that’s me, is of the girl variety

Clearly an end of year spending spree. Why couldn’t Bloomberg have the agencies push the funds into next year? If I’m not mistaken there’s a budget crisis looming. Oh well, the car I don’t drive to the job I don’t have will be parked on a hastily repaved street.

Keep buses running on the weekend?
How about on potholed streets?
Full of fetid water carrying who knows what viruses?
Idiot. Whiner.
