The new Roots Cafe in Park Slope boasts, “You’ve never tasted finer coffee! Never!” Opening on December 27th, Roots will offer breakfast themed paninis, and also bagels, muffins, lunch paninis plus sweets like pies and cookies. But let’s get down to the brass tacks, what about the coffee? The website claims they’ll have drip coffee, espresso, cappuccino, chai latte, and especially nice for the cold weather, hot cider and mochas. In addition they’ll present acoustic roots, bluegrass, blues, folk and country every Friday and Saturday.

I met the owner as I was walking to the subway from Southside who flat out told me that SS had the best coffee in the hood, but that they’d have food and ambiance.
I don’t understand why there is now a 3rd coffee shop opening in a 2 block radius. There’s SS and Has Beans, do we really need a 3rd?

Roots is using Stumptown Coffee, which besides being outstanding in taste, is a direct trade company, meaning they have direct relationships with their coffee bean farmers throughout the world. This ensures their farmers make more money than fair trade. Check out their website at stumptowncoffee.com.

I live in the neighborhood and will say that Roots is by far the best coffee shop around. Stumptown Coffee tastes great…you can definitely tell that it is better quality than any other place around. The environment inside is also very warm and inviting. I used to frequent the other places before Roots opened, but now it’s the only place I go. Much better than SS or Has Beans…
