These are some way cool pics of Coney Island in 1991. There’s a full slideshow of them on flickr, but unfortunately no way to embed it, so you’ll have to click here to run through the whole series of pics.

Gowanus Lounge should change its name to The Really Depressing Daily Update of The Demise of Coney Island Blog.

these nuts, I took these pictures in 1991 in the pre-digital age when I was 23 years-old and the neighborhood was scary, but Coney Island was still an oasis in the middle of it.
If there’s any great regret I have in my life its that I didn’t spend more time photographing the neighborhood I grew up in and many, many, many people loved.
Thanks to digital cameras I can document stuff like this much better and with little-to-no cost compared to film.
In fact everyone should go out and document the things they love so 20+ years later you can look back on them.
The big thing I learned looking at these photos from 1991 compared to today is how much has not changed in Coney Island. And how despite that it’s been a popular destination for decades.
It’s sad but needs to be documented.
