This is Carroll Street at Bond Street looking toward the Gowanus Canal. The building with the smokestacks is the power plant that is still standing today. This photo is from 1930.

Notice no people and no activities since it was the freakin depression. maybe you want to see the street like that again so you are gettin your wish.

It’s also the Gowanus Canal area. I could put out a cot and take a nap with no problem.
And FWIW, on the left is the area that currently houses (housed?) The Yard.

It looked pretty much the same in the 50’s & 60’s except it was a bustling industrial area. I had to walk that stretch to get to school and the truck traffic was unbelievable! There was also a bar on the southwest corner called Manixes
( empty lot now) that had a great juke box and a large picture window with a perfect view of the Williamsburg Bank building. A few times my farther would take me & my sister there to watch the Williamsburg Bank’s clock change for daylight savings time. Sounds corny but for a 12 year old it was great to play that old juke box and stay up until 2 in the morning.
Shit, I’ve turned in my mother with these ols stories.
