We stopped by the new Khims Millennium Market at Driggs and N. 11 in the Burg over the weekend, which now occupies the site of the old second-hand junk shop. The look in the eyes of shoppers was something between people sightseeing on Mars on those that had been temporarily blinded by a brilliant flash of light. The place is big. It is well-stocked. And it is the first grocercy in that part of the Burg, which has been adding residents at a very, very rapid pace. We predict a busy future for Khims. This is the worst grocery empire in the neighborhood. I strongly suggest you check the expiration date on all breads and dairy products. They are famously known for selling expired food at highly inflated prices (even for this neighborhood). I cannot tell you how many times I have brought home moldy bread and sour milk. They don’t seem to bothered when you say something about the practice either. If you need over-priced convenience groceries, the Sunacs have better quality food.

I live two blocks down Driggs and I will never shop at this overpriced place. I’d rather go to Tops (eccentric, but local) and the farmer’s market.

This place is disturbingly bright, so I went in. And their prices are really, really, really, marked up even by New York standards.
I’m no expert on the Greenpoint markets, but in my limited experience there—as well as deeper in Brighton Beach—you can get tons better stuff for better quality down there.
And the size of the space is a bit odd. Waaaaay too much space for what they offer.
