Brooklyn Nibbles: Can Uncle Louie G Ice Be Mystical?

February 10th, 2009 · 7 Comments

The Center of Light Building, the horrendous Henry Radusky building at the edge of the former Notary District at Smith and Ninth Street will be getting a new tenant. Another Uncle Louie G ice cream place. And not just any Uncle Louie G, but what looks like a sit down one. A GL reader tipped up off that the awning had gone up and we took pass a by and there it was. As for the Center of Light there is no sign they are ready to spiritualize the nabe yet. As for Uncle Louie G, how many of these freaking places are there in Brooklyn?

What a bizarre location for it. It’s one of the stinkiest, polluted sections with all of those trucks heading towards the BQE. Guess they got some cheap rent.

As for the building itself, it’s definitely odd and out of context, but at least it’s clean and better than an empty lot. Although I wonder what building will be going up on Court St. on the corner.

Center of Light sign is a leftover. They ended up moving into a location on Sterling.

Some of us actually live in the “stinkiest, polluted sections with all of those trucks heading towards the BQE.”

this place is going to be a great addition to this neighborhood, it will bring in plenty of customers who enjoy a good old fashion ice or scoop of any flavor ice cream you could imagine. the owner was very gracious to the customers on the opeing day, he even offered buy one get one free for the grand opening who could ask for anything more in this day and age

i’m not exactly sure what contempt was talking about, however glbiased said it perfectly “you are a dumbass”. however we went on opening day and let me tell you, we had a blast picking out the flavors from FDNY CHERRY to NYPD BLUE for ices and every flavor combo for ice cream. my favorite was the canoli on a sugar cone. the girls that worked there were very pleasant and the owners were very nice.
i say THANK YOU to them for believing in this neighborhood. Can’t wait for the restaurant to open
