We walked by the Crooked Tail Cafe in Gowanus the other day and finally found it open for business. We don’t know how long it’s been open, but it still had the little “grand opening” type banners out front. It’s next to the Canal Bar and occupies the space of what had been a landmark local Italian deli. It’s located at 272 Third Avenue in Gowanus.

I spoke to the owner just the other day–they just had their “soft opening” a week ago, and will have a grand opening soon. It’s the same owner as Canal Bar.

That was my friends grandmothers Italian deli for about 80 years. I want to get the corner renamed Mary’s Corner in her honor.

I miss the deli! I would get coffee there while Mark fixed my truck.

Stopped in at the Crooked Tail today. What a great place! The grilled cheese and bacon on rye was amazing as was Mary’s tuna. Soup was also very good! The ambiance is very cool. Check out the artwork in the back room. The owners weren’t there but I’ve heard they are nice guys from supportive families. Definitely going back for a European hot dog!!
