You read it here first, friends, although we are certain that you will read this “original discovery” elsewhere shortly–by noon at the latest. (Coincidence and all that. It blows one’s mind when it happens.) La Bagel Delight, that Park Slope institution on the corner of Fifth Street and Seventh Avenue, about which nearly everyone in the neighborhood has a strong opinion pro or con, is moving. The thing is, they’re not moving far. They are moving into the empty space left in the old D’Agostino’s Building next to the Five Guys burger place. The sign in the window is above. Hoooly Park Slope Diaper Poo. In retail terms, it’s a big fat zero. A vacant space is occupied and an occupied space is vacated. It may indicate that the bagel market is recession-proof, which could be the most important thing we learned yesterday.

Also this puts them right across the street from the hospital which probably means their business will increase.

Good for them. They’re now squeezed into an ancient building with little or no extras.
Hey now … it’s now the Cardio Corridor – stoke up on bacon and eggs on a bagel in the morning, hit 5 Guys for lunch, then stagger into La Bagel for a dinner deluxe. Then head to the Bank of America for some ready cash – ready for the ER over at Methodist!

Key point: They’re taking their ovens with them. Their bagels are wonderful, and they work with crack teamwork to deal with a long line of grouchy, not-yet-caffeinated Brooklynites. I have a fantasy where the LBD guys are set loose to reform the retail operations in the Post Office.

as a former resident of 474 5th, directly across the street from La Bagel D., i dearly miss the joint, the chaos, the amazing smells when I opened my triple-glazed windows. Having relo-ed to Portland, OR, foodie and coffee capital of the universe, will swear that perhaps only this former Park Sloper can recreate the magic here. Our bagels truly suck. Hopefully I can complete a planned wood-burning pizza oven in my house and then they will not suck. Plan to spend some time with the LBD folks on research.

I have no complaints about their product, but… As long as they continue to air Fox News, the propaganda arm of the Republican Party, on their enormous in-house TV, I will no longer patronize them. Choosing this channel is a spit in the face of the Park Slope community.
