We found this brave flower on Bergen Street near Fourth Avenue. You hang in there, baby.

That’s a cleome (aka ‘spider plant’ or ‘spider flower’). It’s an annual that behaves, sometimes, like a perennial. If it is cut back after it blooms in the spring and fed well, abundant regrowth occurs in the fall. My unprofessional opinion is that Brooklyn cleomes are doing exceptionally well this year. Walking along PPW from GAP to Third St., I have seen at least three front yards with healthy, colorful cleomes with multiple blooms in the past week.
