The sad premature destruction of Astroland continues. These photos were captured yesterday by Captain Nemo and posted on the Coney Island Message Board. He calls the photo above “Stairway to Nowhere.” It’s not even so much that Astroland is going, it’s that there’s no need for it to go right now that makes the blood boil and that the Mayor’s protestations to the contrary, no one has lifted a finger to stop this.

Dear Coney fans….Please call 311 and leave a comment for Mayor Bloomberg. Remind the Mayor of his Nov 3rd letter that said: “Thor’s refusal to agree to the extension was greatly disappointing, but we will continue to pursue an interim measure that will allow Astroland to re-open.” Now it is one month later and Astroland is half dismantled and turning into an empty lot before our very eyes. What’s the delay? Aren’t you running for re-election? Go ahead and buy back the land from Sitt!!!!
Outside of New York City call (212) NEW-YORK or email the Mayor here:

Please call Recchia’s office and remind him of the Nov 17 NY Post story “Astroland Hope” in which he is quoted. “God willing, we will get this done soon,” said Councilman Domenic Recchia Jr. (D-Brooklyn), who convinced both Sitt’s company, Thor Equities, and the city to go to the bargaining table and is helping broker the deal.” Again, what’s the delay? Aren’t you running for re-election? Tell your friend Joey Coney to sell the land to the city or else!!!!!!!!!!!
