“Loose Pit Bull” with Nasty Owner Attacks Park Sloper

December 5th, 2008 · 7 Comments

We almost hesitate to post something with “pit bull” in the headline because we know the reaction the breed can promote. But our fine friends at Park Slope Parents who are always keeping the broader community informed about important things and are happy to do so, have a story about neighborhood pit bull attack and the dogs apparently moronic owner. Here is the email we came across, posted the only way we know how, “stolen” via copy and paste:

Someone I know was walking her dog last week in Park Slope and they both got attacked by a loose pit bill. (the pit bull was not on leash but had an owner)  The person I know broke her arm in the attack and her dog required surgery.  Apparently the owner of the pit bull was totally unapologetic and is not being responsible in any way.  My first thought had been what if I had been with my 2 year old son. I guess I am sending this both as a warning and a question. Isn’t there something we can do?

Opinions, anyone?

(The pit bull pictured here is not the one involved in the alleged Park Slope attack. It’s just a basic pit bull.)

Please. I thought we were all smarter than this. You are actually posting a picture of a pitbull, not involved in anyway…? Tell me again how a mug shot of the suspect doesn’t perpetuate all the racism/class-ism of the gentrifier? This is a sad story about a loose animal and an irresponsible owner, not a breed. Dont be a dope, what exactly are you reporting?

don’t write off the breed because of the stupid actions of one owner who didn’t at all train his dog. and then the matter of her two year old?

jeez, park slope people are whiter than i am and i went to collegiate.

“Isn’t there something we can do?”

Seriously? You have to ask? File a report with the police. NYC doesn’t take malicious dog attacks lightly.

But in all seriousness, this didn’t happen because of the breed of the dog. This is just another thing that will make pits look like bad dogs. Its a shitty owner. that should be the headline.

Very little details here but if your looking for an opinion here’s mine. The world is still a jungle, be prepared for anything. whether it’s a mugging, dog attack etc..
I was once crossing the baseball fields at 9th street when a very large german shep looking mutt, off leash, ran right up to be and was growling, snarling and baring teeth ( big teeth! lol ) I tried to slowly back away but the dog kept approaching. For the first few seconds I froze but after I pulled a folding knife from my back pack ( kept there for cutting my ankle wrap and tape when I play sports) I heard a woman’s voice calling for her dog. I screamed at the woman to come and physically get her dog immed or I would defend myself. At this point it was scary, the dog still growling like I stole it’s steak. BTW I was near nobody, hadn’t acted in a threatening way and was nowhere near the owner. Just walking across the field and I am being terrorized.
After about FIVE MINUTES of this asshole woman just calling for her dog to come the woman slowly came over and leashed her dog to the sound of me cursing her. I ran to see if I could find an officer, parks employee and I called 911 but the woman took off with her dog.
Didn’t have my cell phone lol.
If I had a child or girlfriend with me I may have acted against the animal.
The owner is the real animal.

If the above is a true story, I assume the owner got away because I would have tried my best, after killing the offending beast, to kick the owners ass butt good.

Yeah, enough of the pit bull breedism, in your case thinly vieled breedism. I mean, if this attack was by a black guy would you put a picture of a random black dude up there? We all know what pit bulls look like fella. That being said, people who walk around a crowded city with unleashed, powerful dogs are morans pure and simple. Did she manage to get the guys contact info? If she did, he could pretty easily sue for medical bills and emotional distress.

let me get this straight… you are talking about a breed that has been BRED to be VICIOUS (its in the fucking name) and you schmucks are trying to argue that this one is the exception.

Some people are just fucking morons.
