Enrique Norten Building Coming to Roebling Street?

Roebling Construction Site Du Jour

Looks like Enrique Norten’s firm TEN Arquitectos is designing a condo that will go on a huge empty lot at the corner of N. 10th and Roebling in Williamsburg. The official address of the project is 33 Roebling, AKA 236 N. 10th Street. The site has been vacant since demolition about a year ago.

Interestingly, it is less than a block from the Roebling Oil Field, so it will be fascinating to see what is discovered during the excavation process. There are test wells nearby, but we haven’t seen any near this property.

We came across TEN Arquitectos on some disapproved permit applications as we were checking on the status of things on the property, ironically, because the fence is in such bad shape. The new building is listed as 6 stories with 147 units. It will be 241,000 square feet. Ownership is listed as Favorite Properites LLC at 580 Fifth Avenue and alternately as Lockes Properties. There are no renderings of the plans, although we’re sure it will be a major change from the neighborhood standard.

Oh, where are all the comments about the deadly toxic vapors and cancer victims? The billyburg bloggers obviously protect the reputation of their neighborhood. They are only interested in spreading lies about Greenpoint, to scare people away. They know, other than the new buildings going up, that Williamsburg is a toxic wasteland. Luis Garden Acosta, Founder/President & CEO of El Puente, a highly respected community human rights institution that promotes leadership for peace and justice through the engagement of members (youth and adult) in the arts, education, scientific research, wellness and environmental action has called Williamsburg “the most toxic place to live in America” in a documentary created by the VBS organization. Other rare cancer clusters in Willamsburg have been reported in the NY Post, CBS news and Geraldo at Large on Fox.

Always knew Lockhart was secretly in the development business. Would have thought he would have picked a less obvious name for his company though 😉

Only 150 units? I’d imagine them trying to go for about 200-250, it is a giant parcel of land. I guess it is now too hard to get a variance in Williamsburg for over 6 stories.
