Good News in Gowanus: The Bunker Gets Glass

Bunker with Glass

We have to say that we’re fascinated by the building at Carroll and Bond Streets that we call The Bunker in honor of its stunning lack of windows. It reminds us of gun emplacements used in Europe during World War II and of the remnants of emplacements near Montauk at the end of Long Island. In any case, it’s a luxury condo from the studio of Robert Scarano Architects. We post this in order to note that windows are now being installed and so that we can make the following wisecrack: The installation should go very quickly.

If bad architecture were a capital crime, Scarano would be on death row.

In another era, he may have been burned at the stake for witchcraft and/or heresy.

OK, I actually walked around this thing yesterday afternoon.

To my admittedly untrained eye, it looked like the shoddiest construction I’ve ever seen.

Have been musing over this building for months–as I live one block away. They’ve obviously had some serious delays–been weeks on end where nothing happens there.

Agree with the bunker title–these are going to some strange living environments with those tiny windows.

And the little home at the corner of 2nd and Bond just wouldn’t budge…

1 – I have seen a rendering of the facade. I think it is very hip.
2 – The apartments are very bright. If you look at the courtyard side you will see the windows.
