We noticed that the exterior of Po on Smith Street is finished and the sign is up, and were taking some photos when chef Lee McGrath came outside.

“Does this mean you’re coming in?” she joked.

“When you’re open,” we said.

“We’re opening on Thursday and I expect to see you,” she said.

There you have it. Po, which is related to the Mario Batali-created Po in the West Village and whose opening is the most anticipated on Smith Street in ages, will finally start serving food this week. McGrath, by the way, said of Smith Street, “We really love it here.” The original Po, of course, continues feeding the world on Cornelia Street. Po Brooklyn is at 276 Smith.

    That might be the best selection of vegetarian choices anywhere on Smith Street.

    Made reservations with Po today. Tonight and Thursday are private tastings to train staff. General public opening is Friday.

    Blah blah blah, more pasta, none of it whole wheat, so it’s like an instant sugar rush in your body. Bad.

    So excited to see a restaurant like Po on Smith Street. Made reservations in advance for last Wednesday night. Only times available were 7pm or 9pm. Went at 9pm and had to wait 15 or so minutes for table for 3. Not a bad wait for a new place and one that seemed to be slammed. Bar was a little cramped but were were able to order a glass of wine & had it transferred to the table when it was ready. we were automatically served the white bean bruschetta and were greeted by a knowledgeable server. we split the poached asparagus with truffled egg crostino which was not as amazing as it sounded. the three of us each ordered our own entree. i ordered to black fettuccine and found it to be quite hearty borderline heavy. however, still found room to enjoy an over-the-top ricotta ice cream topped with strawberries. many other items on the menu i will go back for. not to mention the attentive kind, yet casual service. the ambience is clean & you can still smell the fresh paint.

    went to Po last night (tuesday). busy & bustling. our fair-haired waiter (who was juggling 4 new tables)all but ignored us when our initial bottle of white arrived tepid.
    food was honestly just OK. broccoli rabe had fish essence & was rubbery. things were too heavy – it was lacking the delicate Italian flavour one would expect from eponymous sister in nyc. My friend’s gnocchi though was perfectly cooked & served.
    Dessert? ugh. my choc gelato was more like a bad Starbucks watery frapuccino gone bad.
