while not one to discourage historicism in any way– it must be noted New York Shitty is reinventing the wheel here with regards to the (re)discovery of street names in ** THE EASTERN DISTRICT. **
also, what gives– no Whole Foods updates? i mean that very sarcastically although it would be funny to get someone to report on all the spring & summer of all the interesting flora there.
to quote GL, with props for noting WF is anti-union, 17 November 2006–
In any case, the new mega-store is slated to open in Spring 2008 and is certain to fundamentally change Gowanus as we know it. The release boasts of 500 permanent jobs (Whole Foods is a non-union employer. It is, in fact, the nation’s second-largest non-union food retailer after Wal-Mart.) and of a “Community Room” at the supermarket “available to local civic groups.”

Q1: that must be a type or a lie– no way in hell that store could have 500 jobs, nor the cumulative impact of the store (i.e. truckers, suppliers, etc).
Calling Marty Markowitz! Calling the NYC “Business Integrity Commission” (which threw out Red Hook Crushers)!
Q2: are they fucking cleaning up or not? Maybe they’re saving up money to do the job “right”?
