1) The bodega on the corner of N. 6th and Bedford has been toast for a few weeks as reported by A Test of Will, but the new management isn’t losing any time turning it into a new space. We caught the gates up and work underway inside. By the looks of the display cases, it appears that it will be some sort of deli or food store.
2) The N.6 & Bedford storefront which, to our great joy, housed the Toll Brother’s North8 Condo sales office for about a year, still has a for rent sign, but there are clear signs that it is being renovated into a store. (In fact, by the looks of things, signage could be up today or in a few days.) We saw clear evidence of wine racks within, so we’re thinking it could be a wine shop. Or, at least, some sort of business that uses shelving that looks a lot like wine racks.

Uva is moving from its tiny store in the mini mall that fronts on North 5th, into the Bedford and North 6th corner space.

The wineshop will be Uva which is currently located at the Bedford mall but will be moving into the bigger new space!

A sign went up over the weekend. It’s Uva, which is moving from it’s tiny shop in the Minimall, following in the footsteps of the Bedford Cheese Shop, which successfully emerged from its starter space there about a year ago.
Here’s to hoping the extra space will make room for more interesting wines priced <$15. I noticed about a year ago that there were increasingly many more expensive wines (and fewer affordable ones), one of many signs of the neighborhood's new affluent clientele. The best example is Trojanowski on North 7th, which used to sell Thunderbird from behind bulletproof glass. Now they're peddling $60 California cabernets, which sit unprotected on the shelf right by the door. Also, my wife tells me there’s another wine shop opening on Broadway, near Dressler and Peter Luger. /on preview: i’mjustsayin beat me to the news/
