Roebling Oil Building Watch: The R.O.B. Goes Green

September 11th, 2007 · 2 Comments

Roebling Oil Building 0910

Our old friend the Roebling Oil Building, which has sprouted atop the Roebling Oil Field, stopped growing some time ago. Now, it is adding new details every week. We found a wall covered in green, this weekend, clearly being prepped for what is likely to be the building’s exciting exterior. Is it us, or has the R.O.B. gone up a lot faster than most buildings in Williamsburg?

Just sited—following up on the incidents over the last year around williamsburg of local residents smelling a oil/gas like smell…today earlier this morning b/w 11 am and 12 pm, there were two Key Span trucks located on Grand St b/w Roebling and Havermeyer. On of the Keyspan Truck was marked “Vaccume Excavator System” and the other truck on it said “Danger Concentrated Gas” …and the Keyspan guys where working over a hole about 2 feet wide drilled into the side of Grand Street.

So why what exactly was Keyspan excavating?

the builders/developers are trying to get that tainted building up ASAP so they can unload it before
1.) more potential buyers become aware of all the toxic issues in Williamsburg

2.) while the second shoe is dropping on the RE Mkt nationally and the sales/price declines hit NYC’s condo market which is mostly BK and Queens HARD.

The Buyers are SUCKERS– why pay for not just and way overpriced condo BUT a toxic tainted one that you can’t insure?
