Who knew that Coney Island would be the site of Beer Island this summer? Beer Island…we love the way it rolls off the tongue…might best be described as a little bit of Water Taxi Beach, but without the East River and in Coney Island. We’re predicting big things for it this summer. It’s an expanse of sand, that was brought in last summer for use with a big inflatable water slide that saw little use on property owned by developer Joe Sitt. Before that it was the site of a miniature golf course that was the victim of Premature Demolition by the developer. The new drinking spot is said to be the work of two Coney boardwalk stalwarts, Cha Cha’s and Shoot the Freak. It has a lot of tables with umbrellas and a decent selection of (not cheap) beer and a few non-alcoholic options. We found it to be woefully short on food options, having a hot dog cart and nothing else. Hopefully this will change, as it would be great if it were a place to sit and get some food too. It’s also promising “entertainment,” so all it needs is a few tweaks like more edibles and, perhaps, some plastic palm trees, and we’re totally good to go.

It’d be a great draw if they had a theme every night. Say one night lady’s night, one night men’s. Maybe a hawaiian night! Also, PLEASE No plastic trees. real would be MUCH better! Don’t you think?! And yes, everyone gets hungry when they drink. If you wanna keep a crowd, food to go with that beer is definitely a good place to start. Then maybe they can bring the beer down to a more logical place….

Beer on the beach. Near Nathans. And there is a MORE LOGICAL PLACE for this? I dare say this will do well on its own without having to cater to mindless fools who need a reason to drink beer on the beach–that reason being dressing up like an idiot. While you’re at it why don’t you throw, “bingo night” in there.
Great job, Sarah!

It is on Stillwell Ave right at the boardwalk. Get of the train and walk toward the ocean.

Great place to hang out, grab a beer, relax. The BBQ guy makes the best cheeseburger around, you won’t find better in Coney.

They make really good food believe it or not.
They make it fresh on the grill, so you will have to wait but it’s worth it, and you can always drink.
It is kid friendly during the day.
It’s open late , I ate there after a concert at 11pm.

He corrected me and said ” They tried getting me twice, anyway, IM FROM BROOKLYN!!” DATTA BOY SPIDER!!! DONT TAKE SH@! FROM NOBODY!!
