Van seats put to use on the street are always interesting. This pair comes from the front of a small grocery in South Williamsburg. Nice.

Street Couch Series: Under the BQE
May 14th, 2008 · Comments Off on Street Couch Series: Under the BQE
We have a hard time believing that a couch as perfect as this wasn’t placed beneath the BQE deliberately as a kind of street art statement, but there’s always a chance that it was dumped there. In any case, it comes to us via the camera of Miss Heather who has a knack for finding […]

It is plush. It looks comfortable. The background is priceless. So, who cares if it may have bed bugs? Have a seat on Ainslie Street, kick back and enjoy the sound of the passing cars on the BQE a half block away.

Street Couch Series: Union & Metropolitan Classic
May 12th, 2008 · Comments Off on Street Couch Series: Union & Metropolitan Classic
This was a very popular sofa yesterday, at least, given its rather central location next to Macri Park at Union and Metropolitan Avenues in Williamsburg. We shot a photo of it overturned around 11AM, then got another photo of it upside down in mid-afternoon. Yesterday evening, however, this photo arrived. The sofa was upright again […]

This is a very nice chair that Miss Heather located for us on Richardson Street next to a restaurant in the making called Frankie’s, which has been “opening soon” for the last six months. And so, she called it “Frankie’s Blue Chair.” It certainly looks like the kind of seat that one might want to […]

Street Couch Series: Greenpoint Pastoral

This collection comes from Greenpoint and we will let Miss Heather explain: “This melange of discarded furniture is located in front of Ladder 106 on Greenpoint Avenue right off McGuinness Boulevard. This is arguably one of the noisiest–and when the wind is just right–smelliest sections of the Garden Spot. The magazine rack is a nice […]

One does expect, at this point, to begin finding couches and chairs that have been dragged or carried outside for the purpose of planting oneself in the sun and relaxing or hanging out. [Photo courtesy of Lost City] This impressive street couch, which still might have many good years of service ahead of it were it not for the fact that it’s been tossed out on the street, comes from President Street in Carroll Gardens, a neighborhood from which we don’t often get street sofas. This plush and once-proud recliner comes to us from Dekalb Avenue in Bed-Stuy where Miss Heather found it communing with a couple of old TV sets. While the staging suffers from the fact that the TVs have been carelessly placed behind the recliner, it’s still easy to picture kicking back in it and watching.
